Wiegand Challenge
$5,000 Matching Gift
Joel and Terry have been involved with the Grand Island Public Schools for many years and are excited to be participating in the GIPS Foundation Staff Giving Campaign.
Quick family history: Joel has spent his entire 49-year career in the Grand Island community as a CPA at Contryman Associates. As part of that career, Joel worked with Marv Maurer who influenced the Wiegands to support the Foundation, including funding an Academic Aristocrat Scholarship.
Terry’s teaching career, all in GIPS, began as a student teacher, then a teacher at Gates Elementary, followed by a 13-year break from classroom teaching while being a school volunteer at her sons’ school. She ended her teaching career at Stolley Park Elementary. While teaching at Stolley Park, Terry was honored to be a recipient of a GIPS Foundation Classroom Grant and was a Co-Chair for the Elementary Staff in the 2004 Add it Up to Opportunity Campaign.
Last, as parents, they are grateful for the excellent education their two sons received through GIPS, which enabled them to move on to positive college experiences and successful careers of their own.
“During our years, we have witnessed the important place GIPS Foundation holds in our school district and all that it does for our students and staff through scholarships, classroom grants, the legacy funds, and honoring present and past members of our excellent GIPS staff. We have observed the outstanding staff support through the years. The Foundation is such a bright star for Grand Island Public Schools! In gratitude for our community, a teaching career and our sons’ education, we feel it is important to support continued opportunities for GIPS students and educators. So, we are pleased to commit to the pledge of $5,000 as a match of all new or increased gifts for the coming year.”
