Lucile C. Martin Dream Scholarship (10)

The children of Lucile and Jack Martin, Les, Carol, Dianne, Lanny, Tom and Janet, all grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School. Their parents encouraged and enabled all of them to attend college. The Martin children have created this multi-year scholarship in honor of their mother Lucile C. Martin who volunteered for many decades in support of teenagers in need. The scholarship award is up to a total of $5,000 or 95% of tuition and books/supplies (whichever is less) for students who are pursuing a certificate, diploma, or associates degree in a trade program. Up to 10 awards will be made annually.

Eligibility

  • Must be a graduate of Grand Island Senior High and attended G.I. for at least one year
  • Must have applied and be accepted to an accredited technical school or community college
  • Must have a 2.0 grade point average or above
  • Must be pursuing a certificate, diploma or Associates Degree one of the following majors: Information Technology, Manufacturing, Automotive, Construction, Welding, Health Occupations – including Nursing and others, Business

Students who meet one or more of the following criteria will be considered

  1. Minority
  2. Financial Need
  3. English Learner (EL) or English is not the primary language spoken in student's home.
  4. Migrant worker
  5. Teen Parent

Selection Procedure

  • Applications will be reviewed by a scholarship selection committee appointed by the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation.

Terms of Payment

  • The scholarship will be paid through the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation to appropriate educational institution per scholarship eligibility defined above. Scholarships larger than $500 will be split into equal semester payments.

Claim Scholarship

  • The student must provide proof of enrollment (class schedule) and student ID number to the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation for scholarship distribution. Proof of enrollment is needed for each semester covered by scholarship terms. Send proof of enrollment to Kari Price via email to kprice@gips.org, in person at GIPS Administration Building (123 South Webb Road) or via mail to PO Box 4904, Grand Island, NE 68802.

Terms of Renewal

  • The student must maintain a post-secondary GPA of 2.0 each semester to continue the scholarship.
