Herbert F. Mayer, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

The family of Herbert F. Mayer, Jr. offers one scholarship for Grand Island Senior High students who will pursue a degree in the field of Construction or Engineering. 

Herbert F. Mayer, Jr. was an attorney who practiced law for 15 years for the Mayer and Mayer Law firm. He then became a real estate broker who developed Associated Realty in Grand Island, Nebraska. Herbert was an entrepreneur who planned and developed Normandy Estates and Brentwood Estates. He also developed Normandy Apartments and Townhomes, Piccadilly Square Apartments, and Brentwood Townhomes. Herbert loved Grand Island and his work shows the devotion he had to help Grand Island grow and thrive.

He was also devoted to his family. Herbert shared his time and talents with them. Whether he was picking them up from school or teaching them how to play a sport, he loved being with them. He was a great storyteller, and his family will always carry his stories with them as one of their favorite memories. Herbert passed away in 2002 at the age of 68.

  • 1

Eligibility

  • Must be a graduate of Grand Island Senior High
  • Must attend an accredited Nebraska college, university, technical school or community college
  • Must major or minor in Construction Management, Construction, or Engineering
  • Preference will be given to students that demonstrate a passion for construction management
  • Must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher

Selection Procedure

  • Applications will be reviewed by a scholarship selection committee appointed by the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation.

Terms of Payment

  • The scholarship will be paid through the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation to appropriate educational institution per scholarship eligibility defined above. Scholarships larger than $500 will be split into equal semester payments.

Claim Scholarship

  • The student must provide proof of enrollment (class schedule) and student ID number to the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation for scholarship distribution. Proof of enrollment is needed for each semester covered by scholarship terms.
