Gerald D. Bryant Scholarship

The late Gerald D. Bryant was a long-time educator who spent 35 of his 39 years as an educator in the Grand Island Public Schools. He was a fifth-grade teacher (4 years) and principal (4 years) at Jefferson Elementary School before becoming a district-level elementary curriculum coordinator and assistant superintendent for 27 years. He served for three years on the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) executive council and received local, state, and national-level education awards. Mr. Bryant has degrees from McCook Junior College, University of Nebraska-Lincoln (bachelor’s and master’s degrees) and completed all work toward a doctoral degree with the exception of finalizing his dissertation at the University of Northern Colorado Greeley. Mr. Bryant and his wife, the late Joyce (Geddes) Bryant, have three children (Lee, Jay, and Carol Bryant) who completed graduate-level educations and excelled in their careers. The scholarship is intended for students who graduate Summa Cum Laude or Magna Cum Laude in their class at Grand Island Senior High School.

  • Must be ranked Summa Cum Laude or Magna Cum Laude of the graduating class

Selection Procedure

  • Applications will be reviewed by a scholarship selection committee appointed by the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation.

Terms of Payment

  • The scholarship will be paid through the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation to appropriate educational institution per scholarship eligibility defined above. Scholarships larger than $500 will be split into equal semester payments.

Claim Scholarship

  • The student must provide proof of enrollment (class schedule) and student ID number to the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation for scholarship distribution. Proof of enrollment is needed for each semester covered by scholarship terms.
