Edward F. Saunders, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship Essay Required

Edward Saunders taught World History and Social Studies at Grand Island Senior High School from 1966 to his retirement in 1992. He had a bachelor’s degree from Doane College and master’s degree from Kearney State College. He was selected by the Grand Island Public Schools as a candidate for the prestigious Christa McAuliffe Award. Saunders had a passion for not only American History but also World and Ancient History. His favorite phrase was “If you don’t know history, you are doomed to repeat it.” The family of Edward F. Saunders offers one scholarship for Grand Island Senior High students with a demonstrated interest in history.

  • $500 x 1 year

Eligibility

  • Must be a graduate of Grand Island Senior High
  • Must enroll in an accredited post-secondary education institution.
  • Preference will be given to students that demonstrate a passion for history.

Essay Question

  • Write an essay describing the importance of history in your life and why you have a passion for history. (Max 500 words)

Selection Procedure

  • Applications will be reviewed by a scholarship selection committee appointed by the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation.

Terms of Payment

  • The scholarship will be paid through the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation to appropriate educational institution per scholarship eligibility defined above. Scholarships larger than $500 will be split into equal semester payments.

Claim Scholarship

  • The student must provide proof of enrollment (class schedule) and student ID number to the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation for scholarship distribution. Proof of enrollment is needed for each semester covered by scholarship terms.
