Dr. Joe and Bonnie Watkins Scholarship

Dr. Joe and Bonnie Watkins invested a lifetime educating Grand Island Senior High students. Both began their teaching careers at Grand Island Senior High in 1965 and retired from the same school years later. Dr. Joe even retired a second time after being asked to continue teaching dual-credit and Advanced Placement Macroeconomics and Microeconomics. Their teaching years at Grand Island Senior High total 84 years. They believe strongly in the opportunities and diversity afforded to students of Grand Island Senior High. Their own children, Marisa and Trent, are proud Islander graduates. Much has changed since 1965, but the Watkins’ desire to invest in students has not. The Dr. Joe & Bonnie Watkins Scholarship is a legacy investment in students who have had to overcome considerable challenges to succeed.
