Dr. Carlos Guerrero, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

High School and College students eligible

In memory of Dr. Carlos Guerrero, Jr., his friends offer a scholarship to a first generation college student pursuing a degree in the medical field. Carlos was a 1999 graduate of Grand Island Senior High. He graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas and Texas Chiropractic College. He had recently set opened his own practice, Red Zone Chiropractic in Grand Island. He had many deep friendships and is greatly missed.

  • $500 x 4 years

  • 1

Eligibility

  • Must be a graduate of Grand Island Senior High
  • Open to high school seniors and graduates who are currently enrolled in a qualifying undergraduate program
  • Must be a first generation college student
  • Must be pursuing a medical degree including the following: nutrition, physical therapy, dentistry, pre-medicine, pre-pharmacy, chiropractic, nursing
  • Must be of Hispanic or Latino/a origin
  • Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need

Selection Procedure

  • Applications will be reviewed by a scholarship selection committee appointed by the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation.

Terms of Payment

  • The scholarship will be paid through the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation to appropriate educational institution per scholarship eligibility defined above. Scholarships larger than $500 will be split into equal semester payments.

Claim Scholarship

  • The student must provide proof of enrollment (class schedule) and student ID number to the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation for scholarship distribution. Proof of enrollment is needed for each semester covered by scholarship terms.
