"Build GI" Reed Family Scholarship

Scholarship Essay Required

Through the collaboration of the GIPS Career Pathways Institute and Jimmy Reed the “Build GI” Reed Family Scholarship was established. The Reed family are long term residents of Grand Island. The Reed family, with a passion to grow and expand Grand Island, established numerous housing divisions. The scholarship is for students that aspire to go into the construction or engineering field. 

Amount and Terms

  • $2,000 x 1 year

Number of Scholarships

  • Up to 3

Eligibility

  • Must be a graduate of Grand Island Senior High
  • Must have applied to an accredited university of four year college in Nebraska
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Financial need will be a consideration in the selection, but will not be the determining factor
  • Preference to students majoring in Construction, Interior Design or Architecture

Essay Question

  • Share your aspirations moving into the construction or engineering field over the next 5 years. Share the challenges you've faced and anticipate while achieving your goals in your chosen field. (Max 500 words)

Selection Procedure

  • Applications will be reviewed by a scholarship selection committee appointed by the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation.

Terms of Payment

  • The scholarship will be paid through the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation to appropriate educational institution per scholarship eligibility defined above. Scholarships larger than $500 will be split into equal semester payments.

Claim Scholarship

  • The student must provide proof of enrollment (class schedule) and student ID number to the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation for scholarship distribution. Proof of enrollment is needed for each semester covered by scholarship terms. Send proof of enrollment to Kari Price via email to kprice@gips.org, in person at GIPS Administration Building (123 South Webb Road) or via mail to PO Box 4904, Grand Island, NE 68802.
