Tina Powell Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship Essay Required

Tina Powell Memorial Scholarship offers two scholarship for students with a demonstrated interest in the field of Visual, Multimedia, or Graphic Arts. Tina was a 1991 GISH graduate. Tina had an intuitive understanding of people, saw beyond the surface, and recognized the unique essence of each individual. Tina said that she has a "passion for conceptual collaboration, creative shopping, working the details, and busting her bootie on every shoot and had a blast while doing it." Tina’s legacy lives on in the ripple effect she left behind. Her infectious laughter echoes in our memories, and her creative spirit continues to inspire us to embrace our true selves fearlessly. This scholarship is created to encourage the spark of inspiration to grow into a fulfilling career.

Eligibility

  • Must be a graduate of Grand Island Senior High, Grand Island Northwest, Grand Island Central Catholic, Heartland Lutheran, Wood River, Doniphan-Trumbull
  • Must attend an accredited Nebraska college, university or community college.
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must be going into the Visual, Multimedia or Graphic Arts field

Essay Question

Artist Statement that includes your experience, your goals for the future, and where your passion and inspiration come from. The essay must show what influenced you to go into the visual arts field. (Max 500 words)

Selection Procedure

  • Applications will be reviewed by a scholarship selection committee appointed by the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation.

Terms of Payment

  • The scholarship will be paid through the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation to appropriate educational institution per scholarship eligibility defined above. Scholarships larger than $500 will be split into equal semester payments.

Claim Scholarship

  • The student must provide proof of enrollment (class schedule) and student ID number to the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation for scholarship distribution. Proof of enrollment is needed for each semester covered by scholarship terms. Send proof of enrollment to Kari Price via email to kprice@gips.org, in person at GIPS Administration Building (123 South Webb Road) or via mail to PO Box 4904, Grand Island, NE 68802.
