Nicholas Jay Galvan Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship Essay Required
The family of Nicholas Jay "Nick" Galvan has established this scholarship as legacy to his life. Nick was a member of the Grand Island Senior High Class of 2018. He was involved in football, wrestling, show choir, and his church youth group. Nick had a big smile and was a friend to all. He understood adversity and worked very hard to overcome obstacles that stood in his way. He lived with Tourette's syndrome and this, along with his faith, gave him the tenacity to hang in there when things were tough, and the compassion to understand other's shortcomings. His GISH Football family was important to him. He had longed dreamed of playing football. He wore his number 58 jersey proudly. He was also a talented performer and a member of the GISH Ultimate Image Show Choir.
The scholarship is intended for students who work hard and need additional support to pursue their education.

Eligibility
- Must be a graduate of Grand Island Senior High
- A high school GPA of 2.5 or better
- Must be involved in athletics or music
- Must demonstrate good character and a desire to work hard
Essay Question
- Nick overcame adversity and through this, learned how to succeed in school, be a great friend, and a compassionate person. What adversity have you had to overcome, and how has it transformed you? (Max 500 words)

Selection Procedure
- Applications will be reviewed by a scholarship selection committee appointed by the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation.
Terms of Payment
- The scholarship will be paid through the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation to appropriate educational institution per scholarship eligibility defined above. Scholarships larger than $500 will be split into equal semester payments.
Claim Scholarship
- The student must provide proof of enrollment (class schedule) and student ID number to the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation for scholarship distribution. Proof of enrollment is needed for each semester covered by scholarship terms.
