Geddes-Bryant Family Scholarship
The late Joyce (Geddes) Bryant and her husband, the late Gerald D. Bryant, established the Geddes-Bryant Family Scholarship to honor long-time involvement of the Geddes and Bryant families in Grand Island Public Schools. Joyce (Geddes) Bryant taught home economics at Grand Island Senior High School and Barr Junior High School. Her father (Glenn H. Geddes), several of his brothers, and her great-grandfather (Gavin H. Geddes) served on the Grand Island Public Schools Board of Education. Gerald D. Bryant spent 35 of his 39 years as an educator in the Grand Island Public Schools, where he worked as a fifth-grade teacher (4 years), elementary principal (4 years), then elementary curriculum coordinator and later assistant superintendent (27 years). The late Joyce (Geddes) Bryant and her husband, Gerald D. Bryant, have three children (Lee, Jay, and Carol Bryant) who completed graduate-level educations and excelled in their careers. Three generations of the family are Grand Island Senior High School graduates: Maude (Leiser) Geddes (Joyce (Geddes) Bryant’s mother), Joyce (Geddes) Bryant, and Lee, Jay, and Carol Bryant (Gerald and Joyce Bryant’s children). The scholarship is intended for students who graduate Summa Cum Laude or Magna Cum Laude in their class at Grand Island Senior High School.
