Charles R. and Bessie E. Frith Scholarship (2)

Scholarship Essay Required

Charles and Bessie Frith have created this annual scholarship for deserving young men and women who are graduates of Grand Island Senior High School. The scholarship is intended for students who are hard working and need the additional support to realize their college ambitions.

Amount and Terms

  • $10,000 x 4 years

Number of Scholarships

  • 2

Eligibility

  • Must be a graduate of Grand Island Senior High
  • Must demonstrate financial need by qualifying for the free or reduced school lunch program
  • Must have the ability to succeed in college, however, an honor roll grade point average is not necessary.  A 2.0 or 3.0 grade point average is acceptable
  • Must demonstrate ability to work hard for desired goals
  • Must demonstrate good character and citizenship
  • Must attend a public Nebraska trade school or University.  Examples: Central Community College, Southeast Community College, University of Nebraska, Peru State College, Wayne State College, etc. 

Essay Question

  • Financial hardships and hurdles can present a significant obstacle in pursuing future education. Explain how receiving this scholarship will directly impact your ability to pursue your educational goals. How will furthering your education help you in your chosen career? (Max 500 words)

Selection Procedure

  • Applications will be reviewed by a scholarship selection committee appointed by the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation.

Terms of Payment

  • The scholarship will be paid through the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation to appropriate educational institution per scholarship eligibility defined above. Scholarships larger than $500 will be split into equal semester payments.

Claim Scholarship

  • The student must provide proof of enrollment (class schedule) and student ID number to the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation for scholarship distribution. Proof of enrollment is needed for each semester covered by scholarship terms. Send proof of enrollment to Kari Price via email to kprice@gips.org, in person at GIPS Administration Building (123 South Webb Road) or via mail to PO Box 4904, Grand Island, NE 68802.

Terms of Renewal

  • Student must remain in good standing to qualify for renewal each year.
