Becky Donovan Education Scholarship
“I am part of Starr School.” Mrs. Becky Donovan accurately states this affiliation with her beloved Starr Elementary students and staff. She started teaching first grade at Starr in the Connell building in 1969. Each time Starr Elementary moved and evolved, Mrs. Donovan moved with the school until her retirement in 1996. Mrs. Donovan’s passion for creating authentic experiences for her students is fondly remembered by her colleagues and students alike. She often times baked and sewed with students, teaching life skills along with phonics. Even after she retired, Mrs. Donovan would be called back in to help Starr teachers create emerging readers through her phonics tutoring. As part of her legacy, Mrs. Donovan wanted to invest in future educators. She was grateful to her mother who was also a teacher, and who insisted that she get her college education. In this same spirit, Mrs. Donovan wants to invest in future educators, helping students realize their college dreams.
