Grand Island Public Schools Foundation welcomes new board members, announces officers for 2025
At their January 15 meeting, the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation Board of Directors elected Kelly Enck, President; Paul Hoos, Vice-President; and Shane Wissmann, Secretary/Treasurer. The board elected Yetzira "Yetzy" Calvillo Bermudez, Robert Alexander and Jennifer Worthington as new board members.
The board also thanked Audrey Lutz-Musilek for her service as the Board President for 2024. As the gavel was passed to Kelly Enck, she remarked, “We are incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated and accomplished individuals join our Foundation Board. Their diverse experiences and unwavering commitment to education will be invaluable as we strive to enhance educational opportunities and ensure all students thrive at Grand Island Public Schools.”
Tom Bednar, Zach Butz and Roger Schmidt retired from the board. These board members have freely given their time to make a positive difference in the lives of GIPS students, their families, and staff. They accepted the challenge of being stewards of our donors’ funds and have done a remarkable job accepting that challenge. Their passion for being difference-makers made them a perfect fit to carry out the mission and vision of the GIPS Foundation. We are grateful for their service.

Yetzira “Yetzy” Calvillo Bermudez
A longtime Grand Island resident and an employee of Five Points Bank, Yetzy brings a wealth of community involvement to the Foundation. Her experience with organizations like the YWCA, Multi-Cultural Coalition, and Leadership Unlimited demonstrates her dedication to improving the lives of others. As a GIPS parent, Yetzy understands the importance of quality education and is eager to contribute to the Foundation’s mission.

Robert Alexander
An attorney with Dowding, Dowding & Dowding and an active community member, Robert brings a strong legal and leadership background to the Foundation. His commitment to excellence and his passion for education will be invaluable assets to the Board.

Jennifer Worthington
With a distinguished career in education and extensive experience on the Grand Island Public Schools Board of Education, Jennifer possesses a deep understanding of the district’s needs and challenges. Her insights and guidance will be instrumental in guiding the Foundation’s efforts to support student success.
The GIPSF Board of Directors plays a crucial role in overseeing the Foundation’s operations, guiding its strategic direction, and ensuring that resources are effectively utilized to support innovative educational programs and initiatives.
Others serving on the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation Board of Directors are Brandon Bowley, Kathie Degen, Dr. Vikki Deuel, Yvette Engelhaupt, Diana Kellogg, Alison Larson, Erin Marsh, Shirley McCallum and Valerie Porto. Ex-officio members are Lisa Albers, Kari Price and Executive Director Kari Hooker Leep.
The Grand Island Public Schools Foundation is the tax-exempt organization that accepts gifts on behalf of the Grand Island Public Schools. Since the Foundation’s inception in 1983, its mission and goal has been to enhance a tax-funded education by creating additional opportunities for students through philanthropic means. Programs and projects that fall under the Foundation’s enhancement umbrella include booster clubs, college scholarships for Grand Island Senior High School students, dual enrollment scholarships, facility enhancement, teacher and student recognition, alumni relations, the Grand Island Senior High School Hall of Honor, and the Classroom Grant Program. The Grand Island Public Schools Foundation manages more than 180 funds designed by donors that annually make grants to invest in the students of the Grand Island Public Schools.
