William “Bill” Degen, Sr. and Mary Ann Degen Scholarship

The family of William “Bill” Degen, Sr. has created this annual scholarship in his memory for deserving young men and women who are planning to study business and are graduates of Grand Island Senior High School. Mr. Degen operated Grand Island’s Golden Point restaurant for 15 years and owned and operated Burger King Restaurants in Grand Island. The scholarship is intended for students who are hard working and need the additional support to realize their college ambitions.

  • $1,400/varies x 1 year

  • 1

Eligibility

  • Must be a graduate of Grand Island Senior High
  • Must be a business major
  • Preference will be given to students that have attended Gates Elementary School
  • Must demonstrate ability to work hard for desired goals
  • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA and an ACT score of 20 or higher
  • Must attend a Nebraska college or university

Selection Procedure

  • Applications will be reviewed by a scholarship selection committee appointed by the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation.

Terms of Payment

  • The scholarship will be paid through the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation to appropriate educational institution per scholarship eligibility defined above. Scholarships larger than $500 will be split into equal semester payments.

Claim Scholarship

  • The student must provide proof of enrollment (class schedule) and student ID number to the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation for scholarship distribution. Proof of enrollment is needed for each semester covered by scholarship terms.
