Howard Spanton Memorial Scholarship

Howard Spanton was a Grand Island High School graduate, class of 1955. Howard left Grand Island to go to California to pursue his dream of going to a design and drafting school. At that time, community college was free in California. However, Howard was unable to attend the design/drafting school.

He never lost his love for art and design, and continued painting into his late 70’s. His art has been displayed in libraries, a naval base in California, and art shows. He always wondered what “would’ve been” had he gone to college. Throughout his life he never hesitated to help, financially, those who needed it; whether it be money to help with bills or simply buying a meal for someone in need.

His daughter would like to honor his life and memory by offering a scholarship to a high school student who plans to attend a community college in pursuit of his/her dreams.
