Scholarship Guidelines

Dee and Marilyn Swanson were passionate about education. After graduating high school Dee Swanson attended college. Dee would work in order to attend college, but his educational experience was cut short due to finances, and support for Marilyn and himself. Marilyn was able to complete a college degree in education, and teach throughout the state of Nebraska for 40 years. Following Marilyn’s passing in 2021, and Dee’s passing in 2026, family and friends have created a memorial scholarship to help those wanting to further their education.

Eligibility

• Must be a graduate of Grand Island Senior High School or Grand Island Central Catholic
• Must be pursuing a 2 or 4-year degree
• Must major or minor in a Business or Education field
• GPA of 3.0 or above
• Must be involved in 3 or more school related extracurricular activities

Selection Procedure

• Applications will be reviewed by a scholarship selection committee appointed by the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation.

Terms of Payment

• The scholarship will be paid through the GIPS Foundation to appropriate educational institution per scholarship eligibility defined above. Scholarships larger than $500 will be split into equal semester payments.

Claim Scholarship

• The student must provide proof of enrollment (class schedule) and student ID number to the GIPS Foundation for scholarship distribution. Proof of enrollment is needed for each semester covered by scholarship terms.
