Support GISH Band
The GISH Band program is much more than a band program, it is an investment in our students. Every band student has more than $1,000 worth of investment when stepping out onto the parade route, football field for home performances and competitions, or the concert stage. For example, our marching band uniforms have a purchase cost of just over $500, general instruments (flutes, clarinet, trumpets) start at just over $1000, and specialized instruments (tubas, marimbas, timpani) can often have a price tag of more than $10,000 a piece. Currently, about 80% of our 200 students utilize a school instrument.
Band Director Dr. Evan Lee, along with Assistant Band Director Bob Lienemann, lead the 200-member Band program, which includes drumline, flag corps, multiple concert bands, jazz band and combo, pep bands, and numerous small ensembles and specialty groups.
“Our overall goal of this organization is not simply to teach music, but to create strong and confident people to lead our community through the art of instrumental music” - Dr. Lee
Participation in instrumental music develops teamwork, creativity, timing, personal responsibility, improves mental health, builds friendships and creates a strong tie to Grand Island Senior High.
“What we do is develop the whole student” - Dr. Lee
