GIPS Foundation Invites Teachers to Ignite Innovation with Annual Classroom Grants
The Grand Island Public Schools (GIPS) Foundation is excited to announce the opening of its annual Classroom Grants program, empowering dedicated GIPS teachers to bring innovative learning experiences to life for their students. This vital program funds educational opportunities that extend beyond the district’s general budget, fostering creativity and enriching the academic journey for thousands of Grand Island students.
“What’s your next big idea for student learning?” asks the GIPS Foundation, encouraging teachers to think outside the box and propose projects that can spark new passions and deepen understanding. These grants, ranging from $250 to $2,500, offer a unique opportunity for educators to secure funding for their most imaginative and impactful classroom initiatives.
GIPS Foundation has proudly funded 354 Classroom Grants, totaling an impressive $326,057. These grants have reached every school in the district, directly benefiting approximately 73,788 students by providing resources for cutting-edge projects, engaging field trips, and enriching educational materials.

Colette Sorensen, a retired teacher from Shoemaker Elementary School, shared her enthusiastic support for the program: “I encourage all teachers to apply for classroom grants through the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation. ‘Let Your Creativity Glow’ was only one of the many grants I have been part of during my career at Shoemaker. It reached many students in our SECA-Social Emotional Creative Arts class in 2024 and continues today during the annual art show each year! Thank you for the opportunities!!”
The Classroom Grants program operates with one application round per school year. Applications open on August 1st and close promptly on September 26th at 4:00 PM. Awards will be announced in October, with projects slated to begin after November 1st. Only applicants with a gips.org email address are eligible to apply.
This impactful program is made possible thanks to the generous support from the GIPS Foundation’s Harvest event, Community Campaign, GIPS Staff Giving Campaign, and the Janeth Davis Memorial Fund. The Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to the Grand Island community, GIPS staff, and all donors whose contributions directly fuel these enriching educational experiences.
