Hi, my name is Carter Shultz.
I am a Life rank Scout in Troop 14 here in Grand Island and an 8th grader at Westridge Middle School. I moved to Grand Island in 2019 and joined Shoemaker Elementary in the third grade. I have been a member in Troop 14 for three years and I’m currently the assistant senior patrol leader and I am working towards getting my Eagle Scout rank. It's the highest honor of rank that you are able to earn in Scouts. One of the big reasons that I wanted to do this project was as a kid reading was always hard for me and I had a lower reading score than most kids. I had to go through a lot of books to find the ones that interested me and kept me wanting to read. Which is why I am doing my project called “Inspiring Young Minds with the Gift of a Book”. I decided that I would help the incoming kindergarten students by giving them a new book for the 2025-2026 school year. I wanted to help do this to help benefit literacy and get kids more excited for the new school year and want to come back to school and learn. If kids can find books they enjoy reading then they will hopefully want to start reading more.
